Victory for Walsh at Laang

The Super Rods took to Laang Speedway for the running of round 1 of the Adzweld/M & P Wines Contracting Super Rod Shootout. It was Lancefield’s Shaun Walsh who secured the win of the final when he led home Jamie May in his Super Rod debut and Ewan McKenzie.


In the first heat of the night it was Michael Coad who claimed the win after a race long battle with Howard Stansfield and Corey Deglaitis home in third.

Heat two saw a close race with May leading for the majority of the race with Walsh taking the lead as the pair greeted the white flag, Walsh continued on to take the win ahead of May and Coad.

With another tight race in the third heat it was McKenzie who claimed the checker by half a car length ahead of Neville Gange and Walsh rounding out the top three.


The grid for the final saw Coad and Walsh making up the front row, they were followed by McKenzie, Gange, May, Deglaitis, Stansfield, Zac Farrer and Paul Verhoeven. Troy Hose was unable to take his starting place due to engine issues.


From the drop of the green the battle was on between the two lead cars with Coad and Walsh jostling for position, with Walsh holding onto the lead, this left a fierce battle between Coad, McKenzie and May. With Walsh establishing a slight break the battle for the minors continued with McKenzie moving into second ahead of May, with May moving into second in lap ten.

At the fall of the checker it was Walsh who went on to take a strong win ahead of May, McKenzie, Deglaitis, Coad, Gange, Stansfield, Farrer and Verhoeven.


The Super Rod’s next meeting will be at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway on Saturday 5th of January.
