Deglaitis Delights At Swan Hill
The Super Rod’s made their annual Queen’s Birthday long weekend pilgrimage to Swan Hill’s Sonic Speedway on Sunday night where it was Inverleigh’s Corey Deglaitis who took out the feature win on the night ahead of Laang’s Troy Gleeson and Cobden’s Leigh Podger.
In the first heat of the night it was Michael Coad taking the win in a closely fought race with Shaun Walsh home in second and Deglaitis rounding out the top three. This race saw Michael Cunningham making heavy contact with the wall eliminating him for the remainder of the night, also driveline failure saw Andrew Howard’s night end early.
Heat two saw an all the way win to George Woolstencroft who set off at a blistering pace with Deglaitis second and Podger home in third. In the last heat of the night it was Gleeson greeting the checker first ahead of Deglaitis and Podger.
The line-up for the final saw Deglaitis and Gleeson making up the front row, they were followed by Coad, Woolstencroft, Walsh, Podger, Damien Falkingham, Neville Gange and Linda Verhoeven in her debut race meeting. Falkingham was a late withdrawal with a flat front tyre just prior to the start of the race.
The twenty lap nonstop final was an exciting race with Deglaitis leading all the way, with the cars behind jostling for the minor positions, Gleeson applied heavy pressure to the leader while also thwarting attempts by the pursing cars of Coad, Woolstencroft, Walsh and Podger, all having a turn at running in third place as they tried to run down the leader.
It was Deglaitis who took the chequered flag ahead of Gleeson, Podger, Coad, Walsh, Woolstencroft, Gange and Verhoeven.
