7th Trevor Podger Memorial for Walsh

The Super Rods were in action at Heytesbury Stockfeed’s Simpson Speedway on Saturday night where they contested the 42nd running of the Trevor Podger Memorial. It was Lancefield’s Shaun Walsh who claimed his seventh win in the prestigious event when he led home Laang’s Troy Gleeson and Peterborough’s Ewan McKenzie.

In the first heat of the night it was a flag to flag win for Gleeson who secured the win ahead of Walsh and Zac Farrer. Tim Rankin claimed an all the ways win in the second heat when he led home Darryl Nelson and Neville Gange.

McKenzie was the victor in the third heat when he led home Rankin and Walsh. In the fourth heat it was Jamie May who took the win ahead of George Woolstencroft and Troy Gleeson.

Heat five saw Walsh charge to the checker ahead of Quentin Tanner and Paul Verhoeven. In the final heat of the night it was Rankin who made his way from the back of the field to take the win ahead of Gange and Adrian Rieck.

The line-up for the 25 lap final saw Rankin and Walsh making up the front row, they were followed by Gleeson, McKenzie, Tanner, Gange, May, Nelson, Farrer, Verhoeven, Woolstencroft, Rieck, Clinten Scott, Paul Singleton and Trevor Perry.

Rankin made the most of the starts leading away from Walsh, Gleeson, McKenzie and Tanner, with Walsh hot on Rankin’s heels and in lap five moved into the lead with Rankin withdrawing the following lap.

With Walsh setting a cracking pace leaving Gleeson, McKenzie and Tanner in pursuit of the leader. Walsh went on to greet the checker claiming his seventh Trevor Podger Memorial in the nonstop event breaking the long standing 25 lap record. Walsh led home Gleeson and McKenzie with Tanner rolling his car just short of the finish line and ending his night.  Then came May, Gange, Verhoeven, Rieck, Nelson, Woolstencroft, Farrer, Perry and Singleton.

At the presentations Walsh thanked his fellow competitors, crew members, sponsors and the team of volunteers at Simpson Speedway.
