Premier Win For Coad
The Super Rods were in action on Easter Sunday the 4th of April at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway Sungold Stadium for the final round of the Max Dumesny Motorsports Super Rod Easter Trail where it was Michael Coad who claimed a strong win ahead of Dane Court and Ewan McKenzie.
The first heat of the night Court claimed a convincing win ahead of Howard Stansfield and McKenzie finishing third. Heat two saw an all the ways win to Paul Verhoeven with Stan Marco Jnr hot on his heels with Jamie May rounding out the three.
Heat three was drama filled when the car of Billy Grist clipped a tyre marking the pole line sending him into a roll, at this time Verhoeven took evasive action to avoid hitting Grist and clipped the wall and also rolled. Coad went on to secure the win ahead of Stan Marco Jnr and Thomas Marco.
The grid for the final saw Stan Marco Jnr and Court making up the front row, followed by Coad, McKenzie, Stansfield, May, Thomas Marco, Grist, George Woolstencroft, Jacob Pitcher and Raedyn Marco. With Verhoeven too short on time to repair the car before the final.
It was Stan Marco Jnr who got the best of the starts leading away from Court and McKenzie, however as the cars entered turn two Stan Marco’s car lost traction spinning in front of the field sending ripples through the field. Howard Stansfield sustained body and chassis damage but was able to continue however May, Grist and Stan Marco Jnr were forced to retire.
With a complete restart it was Coad who led the way ahead of Court and McKenzie. With Court in hot pursuit of Coad the pair made a slight break on the pack with the race for third still in dispute between McKenzie, Pitcher, Stansfield and Thomas Marco all bunched together.
A caution in lap five saw the field regrouped with Coad capitalising at the restart and creating himself a handy break from his pursuers of Court, McKenzie and Pitcher. Coad went on to a well-deserved win, with Court second and McKenzie third, they were followed by Pitcher, Stansfield, Thomas Marco, Raedyn Marco and Woolstencroft.
The next meeting for Super Rods will be on Saturday 17th of April at Mortlake’s Mid Western Speedway where they will contest the Col Grist Memorial.
