Premier Win For McKenzie

Saturday 20th of January saw the Super Rods in action at Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium Premier Speedway where they supported the second night of the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic. The night had been marred by persistent rain and saw the final postponed until the following day. It was Peterborough’s Ewan McKenzie who claimed the win ahead of Michael Coad and Quentin Tanner.

 

The first heat of the night saw Coad make the most of his pole starting position to take a flag to flag win ahead of Tanner and Darryl Nelson. McKenzie secured the win ahead of Peter Duynhoven and Coad in the second heat.

 

The line-up for the final saw Coad and McKenzie from the front row, they were followed by Tanner, Nelson, Peter Duynhoven, Jason Kavanagh, Neville Simper, Duane Cordina, Howard Stansfield, Sally Woolstencroft, David Duynhoven and Adrian Rieck.

At the drop of the green it was Coad who led away from McKenzie, Tanner and Nelson.  In a close battle McKenzie was able to move past Coad in lap seven, with Tanner running a close third. McKenzie greeted the checker first ahead of Coad, with Tanner home in third, they were followed by Stansfield, Nelson, Kavanagh, Cordina, Rieck, Peter Duynhoven, David Duynhoven and Simper.
