Pitcher takes a premier trifecta
Super Rods were in action at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway Sungold Stadium on Friday 29th of January when they supported night one of the Australian Sprintcar Title. It was Bannockburn’s Allan Pitcher who was able to complete a trifecta of wins, taking the win ahead of Ewan McKenzie and Troy Gleeson. In the first heat of the night it was Gleeson who secured the win ahead of Howard Stansfield and Geoff Long. McKenzie was the victor in heat two leading home Pitcher and Peter Gale third, the heat was brought to a premature end when the cars of Nelson, Stansfield and Michael Coad tangled leaving the Stansfield car with substantial damage to the front end of the chassis. The final grid saw Gleeson and Pitcher making up the front row, they were followed by McKenzie, Long, Gale, Michael Coad, Darryl Nelson, Sally Woolstencroft, Peter Duynhoven, Peter Bodger and David Duynhoven. Pitcher was able to make the best of the start with Gleeson in pursuit, on lap six McKenzie was able to move forward into second place. The race continued in this fashion until the fall of the checker with Pitcher taking the win ahead of McKenzie, Gleeson, Nelson, Coad, Peter Duynhoven, Bodger, Gale, Woolstencroft and David Duynhoven.
