Pitcher Takes Horsham Win

The Super Rods travelled to Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Raceway last Saturday night to contest Round Three of the 2022 Super Rod Tour. It was Bannockburn youngster Jacob Pitcher who secured the win ahead of Shaun Walsh and Jason Kavanagh.

Pitcher was the victor in the first heat when he led home a close finishing Walsh and Dane Court home in third. Heat two saw Kavanagh make a last lap pass to claim the win ahead of Walsh and Pitcher. Stan Marco Jnr took a strong win in the final heat of the night leading home Kavanagh and Jamie May.

Drivers then contested a series of match races where two cars contested two laps and the victor advanced forward to the next challenger for their final starting positions. The first pairing was made up of Marco Jnr and May, with Marco Jnr retaining his position and facing the next competitor in Court. Court proved to strong and progressed to challenge Walsh, Walsh took the win and went on to face Pitcher who proved to strong. In the last duel of the night, it was Kavanagh and Pitcher paired with the youngster ceasing the win and claiming pole position for the final.

The line up for the final saw Pitcher starting from position one with Kavanagh on his outside, they were followed by Walsh, Court, Marco Jnr, May, Paul Verhoeven, Jason Poustie, George Woolstencroft, Stacey Jakubauskas and Jamie McMeeken. With Jamie Ackland unable to take his starting position.

At the drop of the green it was Pitcher who made the best of the starts leading the way from Walsh and Court. In lap ten the race came to a caution when the car of Verhoeven rolled to a halt after dislodging a bolt in his torque arm. At the restart it was once again Pitcher who led the way from Walsh, Court, Marco Jnr, Kavanagh and May. With the top six cars all in a tight line Kavanagh moved into fourth position in lap twelve before accounting for Court in lap 17. Pitcher who had led for the races 20 laps claimed the much deserved win ahead of the fast finishing Walsh and Kavanagh, followed by Court, Marco Jnr, May, Woolstencroft, McMeeken and Poustie.
