Pitcher Perfect At Avalon
Good Friday saw the Super Rods take to Geelong’s Avalon Raceway where they contested Round one of the Max Dumesny Motorsport Super Rod Easter Trail, where it was Bannockburn local Jacob Pitcher who secured the win ahead of Stan Marco Jnr and Jason Kavanagh.
In the first heat of the night, it was Stan Marco Jnr who claimed the victory when he led home Daniel Hookway and Jamie May. Dane Court took an all the ways win in heat two leading home Kavanagh and Jacob Pitcher.
Heat three went the way of Howard Stansfield when he went green to checker followed by Jacob Pitcher and Neville Gange. The final heat of the night saw Paul Verhoeven with the early lead, Stan Marco Jnr made his move into the lead in lap eight with Verhoeven relegated to second and Jamie May third.
The line up for the 20 lap final saw Stan Marco Jnr taking pole position with Court on his outside, they were followed by Stansfield, Jacob Pitcher, May, Hookway, Verhoeven, Kavanagh, Gange, Stan Marco Snr, George Woolstencroft, Bailey Pitcher, Tommy Marco, Peter Duynhoven and Jamie Ackland. Super Rods went four wide to say thankyou for the fans prior to the race commencing.
The drop of the green saw Court charging out of turn one followed closely by Stan Marco Jnr and Jacob Pitcher, however before a lap could be completed the car of Hookway made contact with the rear of Stansfield and sending him into the wall and over. This saw the field reset for a complete restart, this time it was Stan Marco Jnr that got the best of the starts leading away from Court, Jacob Pitcher, Stansfield and Kavanagh. Court seized the lead as they crossed the line in the fourth lap, however this was to be short lived when he made contact with Stan Marco Jnr as they exited turn one and sending him up and over bringing on the red light.
At the restart it was Stan Marco Jnr from Jacob Pitcher, Stansfield, Kavanagh and May. In lap seven the race came to a caution when the car of Gange slid slightly sideways before making heavy contact with the pole line tire. With thirteen laps remaining it was Stan Marco Jnr, from Jacob Pitcher, Stansfield, May and Kavanagh. Stan Marco Jnr continued to set the pace with Jacob Pitcher closely behind, before Jacob Pitcher washed high and allowing Stan Marco Jnr a slight break. Jacob Pitcher set about closing the gap and as the duo encountered lapped traffic with two laps remaining saw the pair locked in a tight battle.
With half a lap remaining it was Jacob Pitcher who went high around the lapped car and seized his opportunity to take the lead, however Stan Marco Snr wasn’t giving up but as the checkered flag dropped it was Jacob Pitcher who took a thrilling win, with Stan Marco Jnr finishing narrowly in second, they were followed by Kavanagh, Stansfield, May, Verhoeven, Bailey Pitcher, Duynhoven and Woolstencroft.
