Marco Jnr Reigns At Redline

Saturday 19th of February saw the Super Rods take to Ballarat’s Redline Raceway for Round 2 of the 2022 Super Rod Tour. It was Bannockburn’s Stan Marco Jnr who secured the win ahead of Jason Kavanagh and Jacob Pitcher.

 

In the first heat of the night, it was Kavanagh who secured the win ahead of Marco Jnr and Dane Court home in third. Marco Jnr went flag to flag in heat two leading home Jamie May and Kavanagh. It was a green to checker win for may in the final heat of the night when he led home Kavanagh and Pitcher.

 

The top six drivers contested a pole shuffle with drivers contesting a series of two lap dashes, the first pairing to compete being Pitcher and Cole, with Pitcher retaining his position and moving on to challenge Court. In a tight battle Pitcher moved ahead of Court and faced the next challenger in May. Pitcher took the early lead to defeat May. Marco Jnr advanced ahead of Pitcher in the next pairing to take on Kavanagh. In a tight duel it was Kavanagh who retained pole position in the final.

 

The line up for the final saw Kavanagh and Marco Jnr making up the front row, they were followed by Pitcher, May, Court, Cole, Daniel Hookway, Bob Wilson, George Woolstencroft and Marco Snr.

 

With 25 laps on the board, it was Kavanagh made the best of the starts with Pitcher hot on his heels ahead of Marco Jnr and Court. In lap four the race came to a caution when the car of Marco Snr spun with Wilson nowhere to go and sustaining race ending damage. From the restart it was Kavanagh with Pitcher and Marco Jnr throwing everything they had at the leader before in lap nine Marco Jnr was able to seize the lead as the cars past the post. Marco Jnr was able to establish a slight break from his pursuers in Kavanagh and Pitcher, while the cars of Court, May and Hookway engaged in their own battle.

At the fall of the checker, it was Marco Jnr who went on to take the win ahead of Kavanagh with Pitcher rounding out the podium, then came May, Court, Hookway, Cole and Woolstencroft.

The next meeting for Super Rods will be at Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Raceway on Saturday 5th of March for Round 3 of the Super Rod Tour. The series organizers would like to thank J.D.
