Kavanagh Takes Laang Win

Super Rods were in action last Saturday 8th of February at Laang Speedway for round 1 of the Western Cup series where it was Jason Kavanagh who claimed the in in the Nastasi racing machine ahead of Michael Coad and Jamie May.

In the first heat of the night it was May who claimed the victory in a flag to flag win ahead of Dane Court and Howard Stansfield. Heat two went the way of Paul Verhoeven when he was pressed all the way by Kavanagh with Neville Gange rounding out the three.  Kavanagh claimed a victory in the final heat of the night when he led home Coad and May.

The line up for the final saw Kavanagh and Verhoeven making up the front row, they were followed by Coad, May, Howard Stansfield and Gange. With Dane Court unable to take his starting position.

In the fifteen lap final Kavanagh made the best of the starts leading away from Coad, Verhoeven and May.  While Kavanagh was able to set a strong pace it was Coad and May who led the charge to run down the leader,  with Coad narrowing the gap with three laps remaining he started to apply heavy pressure to the leader however the highline gave Kavanagh the momentum he needed to hold the lead and continue on to take the checker ahead of the charging Coad with May rounding out the top three, they were followed by Verhoeven, Gange and Stansfield.

The next meeting for Super Rods will be this coming Saturday 15th of February where they will take to Heytesbury Stockfeed’s Simpson Speedway where they will contest the 43rd running of the prestigious Trevor Podger Memorial.
