Walsh Wins At Laang

The Super Rod’s competed last Saturday night at Laang Speedway for the running of round two of the Super Rod Stampede, sponsored by Adzweld along with Max & Pam Wines Contracting with Lancefield’s Shaun Walsh taking the checker. Walsh behind the wheel of the Grayland racing M41 claimed the win ahead of Scott’s Creek’s Peter Duynhoven and Laang local Troy Gleeson.

In the first heat of the night it was Duynhoven who took the win ahead of Corey Deglaitis and Gleeson. Heat two saw Walsh lead home Gleeson with Ewan McKenzie rounding out the top three. Walsh claimed his second heat race of the night in the third heat when he led home Deglaitis and McKenzie.

The line-up for the final saw Walsh out of position one with Deglaitis on his outer, they were followed by McKenzie and Gleeson, Duynhoven, Damien Falkingham and Paul Verhoeven.

At the drop of the green it was Walsh who made the best of the starts with Deglaitis, McKenzie and Gleeson all in fierce pursuit, in the third lap McKenzie was able to capitalise as the car of Deglaitis ran high allowing him to move into second position. Walsh continued to lead with the cars of McKenzie and Deglaitis providing plenty of close racing, however in lap five the race came to a caution with debris on the track, this proved to belong to McKenzie who retired to the infield with front suspension damage.

At the restart it was Walsh from Deglaitis and Duynhoven, as the race progressed Deglaitis was able to apply heavy pressure to the leader but when he clipped the rear wheel of Walsh, he slid sideways allowing the cars of Duynhoven and Gleeson to slip by. Walsh was able to establish a strong led and took the checker ahead of Duynhoven, Gleeson, Deglaitis, Falkingham and Verhoeven.

At the conclusion of the two round sit was Gleeson who was the victor in the Adzweld/Max & Pam Wines Contracting Super Rod Stampede, Gleeson led narrowly on points ahead of Walsh, Deglaitis and McKenzie.

The Super Rods will now travel to Hamilton’s Western Speedway where they will hold the Victorian Super Rod Title on Saturday the 9th of April.
