Howard Wins At Laang
The Super Rods took to Laang Speedway on Thursday the 28th of December for the running of round one of the Adzweld/M & P Wines Contracting Super Rod Shootout. It was the Super Rods first hit out for the season after two rain outs. Current Victorian Champion Andrew Howard was able to secure the win in the final ahead of Paul Verhoeven and Michael Coad.
In the first heat of the night it was Howard who claimed the win ahead Verhoeven and Quentin Tanner in his first meeting back behind the wheel of a Super Rod. Coad took the win in heat two, when he led home Neville Gange and Howard. The final heat of the night went the way of Howard leading home Tanner and Coad.
The line-up for the final saw the nights top points scorer Howard starting from position one with Tanner on his outer, followed by Verhoeven and Coad, then came Gange and McKenzie.
Howard made the best of the starts leading away from Tanner and Verhoeven, with Verhoeven moving into second the following lap, with McKenzie later moving into third position.
However it was Howard who was able to maintain his lead with Verhoeven, McKenzie and Coad battling it out for the minors. At the drop of the checker it was Howard who took the win ahead of Verhoeven, Coad, McKenzie, Gange and Tanner.
The Super Rods next meeting will be at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway
