Coad Captures Super Rod Shoot Out At Laang

Last Saturday night the Super Rods took to Laang Speedway for the Adzweld/M&P Wines Contracting Super Rod Shootout. It was Michael Coad who took the honours on the night when he led home Jason Kavanagh and Ewan McKenzie.


The first heat of the night saw McKenzie take an all the way win ahead of Coad with Paul Verhoeven finishing in third. The second heat of the night saw Coad make his way forward from his eighth starting position to take the win ahead of McKenzie and Howard Stansfield in an enthralling battle.


Kavanagh took the win ahead of Stansfield with Corey Deglaitis in the third heat. Heat four went the way of Coad when he led home Kavanagh and Stansfield. In the final heat of the night it was Kavanagh that took the win ahead of Verhoeven with Stansfield home in third.


The line-up for the fifteen lap final saw Kavanagh and Coad making up the front row, the were followed by Stansfield, McKenzie, Verhoeven, Deglaitis, Neville Gange, Troy Gleeson, Neville Simper, Amy Duynhoven and Leigh Humphries. With Paul Singleton pulling in with steering issues before the start of the race.


From the drop of the green it was Kavanagh who made the best of the starts with Coad and McKenzie in hot pursuit, in lap three Coad was able to make his way forward past Kavanagh and into first position. Coad was able to establish a break with Kavanagh, McKenzie and Stansfield all vying for the minor positions. At the fall of the checker it was Coad who took the win ahead of Kavanagh and McKenzie, ahead of Stansfield, Verhoeven, Gange, Deglaitis, Gleeson, Simper, Humphries and Duynhoven.


At the presentations Coad thanked Nastasi Racing for the opportunities and effort they have put in over the season.


The next meeting for Super Rods will be at Mt Gambier’s Borderline Speedway on Saturday 11th of March.
