Coad Claims Hamilton Win

The Super Rods took to Hamilton’s Western Speedway on Saturday 27th of April for the final round of the Western Cup series, where it was Michael Coad who claimed the win ahead of Jason Kavanagh and Adrian Rieck.


Drivers contested two of the three heats on the night. The first heat of the night it was a green to checker win for Paul Verhoeven leading home Troy Hose and Jim Gronbeck. Coad took an all the ways win in heat two leading home Adrian Rieck and Hose rounding out the top three. The final heat of the night was marred in lap two when the car of Shaun Walsh tagged the wall heavily causing him to roll, Kavanagh went on to take the win ahead of Neville Gange and Coad.


The line-up for the 20 lap final saw Coad and Hose making up the front row, followed by Kavanagh, Rieck, Gronbeck, Gange, George Woolstencroft, Jason Grayland, Amy Duynhoven, Peter Duynhoven and Paul Singleton. With Verhoeven unable to start after sustaining engine damage and Walsh unable to repair his damaged car in time.


From the drop of the green it was Coad who set the pace leading away from Kavanagh, Rieck and Gronbeck. With Coad setting the pace he was able to establish a strong lead with the battle for the minors still in play. As the race proceeded Coad was able to maintain his dominance with Kavanagh, Rieck and Gange who moved past Gronbeck in lap twelve in hot pursuit.


At the end of the 20 laps it was Coad who secured a convincing win ahead of Kavanagh and Rieck, they were followed by Gange, Gronbeck, Grayland, Woolstencroft, Singleton and Amy Duynhoven.


The next meeting for Super Rods will be next Saturday the 4th of May at Darlington’s Mid-Western Speedway for round three of King of the Bullring.
