Gange Claims Bill Campbell Memorial
The Super Rods travelled to Portland’s Southern 500 Speedway on Saturday 19th of March where they contested the Bill Campbell Memorial in conjunction with the Western Cup Series. It was Colac’s Neville Gange who added his name to the honour roll ahead of Hamilton’s Dane Court and Bannockburn’s Jacob Pitcher.
Gange claimed an all the ways win in the first heat of the night when he led home Stan Marco Jnr with Grant Stansfield home in third. Heat two saw Pitcher take a flag to flag win holding out an ever pressing Gange with Jamie May rounding out the three.
The third heat saw Court secure the win with Paul Verhoeven following closely behind and May home in third. The final heat of the night saw Stansfield with the win ahead of Jason Kavanagh and Court.
The line up for the 2022 running of the Bill Campbell Memorial saw high point scorer Gange starting from position one with Stansfield on his outside, they were followed by Court, Pitcher, Kavanagh, May, Verhoeven, Daniel Hookway, Marco Jnr, George Woolstencroft, Stacey Jacko, Jason Poustie and Bob Wilson.
It was Gange who made the best of the starts leading away from Stansfield, Court and Pitcher. With Gange setting a blistering pace it was Court who led the charge while behind it was a tight battle between Stansfield, Pitcher, Kavanagh, Verhoeven and May, before the race came to a halt in lap five when the car of Poustie rolled. The restart saw Gange lead away from Court, Kavanagh, Stansfield and Pitcher, the race came to a caution in lap 10 when a racing incident saw Kavanagh and Court come together, with Kavanagh was unable to continue.
Gange continued to set the pace leading away from Court and Stansfield. While the battle behind with Pitcher Verhoeven and May providing plenty of close racing. At the fall of the checker, it was Gange who led the race for its entire 20 laps took a much deserved win ahead of Court and Pitcher, they were followed by Verhoeven, May, Marco Jnr, Hookway, Wilson and Jacko.
