Premier Win For Walsh

It was Shaun Walsh who secured the win when the Super Rods took to Sungold Stadium Premier Speedway last Friday night when they supported night one of the Australian Late Model Championship. Walsh who was behind the wheel of the Ron Jones car regularly driven by his brother Andrew Howard, and claiming the win ahead of Jason Kavanagh and Corey Deglaitis.

 

In the first heat of the night it was an all the way win for Walsh ahead of Darryl Nelson with Deglaitis home in third. Heat two saw Kavanagh take the early lead before a stoppage in the first lap when current Victorian Title holder Michael Coad made heavy contact with the wall and sustaining front end damage.  At the restart Kavanagh continued to set the pace and took the win ahead of Ewan McKenzie and Deglaitis. Coad was able to repair his car for the third heat and took a green to checker win ahead of Walsh and McKenzie.

 

The grid for the final saw Walsh and Kavanagh making up the front row, they were followed by McKenzie and Deglaitis, Coad, Nelson, Neville Simper, Paul Verhoeven and Amy Duynhoven.

 

At the fall of the green it was Walsh who got the best of the starts with Kavanagh and McKenzie hot on his heels. They continued in this fashion until lap five when Coad moved into third position with the car of McKenzie withdrawing from the race due to making heavy contact with the road end fence and sustaining rear end damage. Coad also later retired with engine overheating a problem.

At the fall of the checker it was Walsh who took a convincing win ahead of Kavanagh and Deglaitis, they were followed by Nelson, Simper, Verhoeven and Duynhoven

 

The next meeting for Super Rods will be this Saturday 4th of March at Laang Speedway for the Adzeld/M&P Wines Contracting Super Rod Shootout.
