Howard Wins 2017 Victorian  Super Rod Title

The Super Rod’s contested their 2017 Victorian Super Rod Title at Mortlake’s Mid-Western Speedway where it was an elated Andrew Howard who was able to seize victory taking his first Victorian Super Rod Title leading home Adrian Rieck and Rod Smith.

 

The first heat of the night saw Troy Gleeson secure the win ahead of Andrew Howard and Neville Gange. Heat two was an all the ways win for Smith who led home Gange and Paul Verhoeven.

Ewan McKenzie was able to make the best of his front row starting positions in heat three to take the win ahead of Rieck and Howard rounding out the top three. In the final heat of the night it was Howard with a flag to flag win ahead of Corey Deglaitis and McKenzie third.

 

The line-up for the 25 lap final saw Howard and McKenzie making up the front row, they were followed by Deglaitis and Gange, Smith, Rieck, Verhoeven, Paul Singleton, Leigh Humphries, Sally Woolstencroft and Gleeson. Gleeson was due to start from position six however power steering issues in his own car saw him behind the wheel in David Duynhoven’s car. Damien Falkingham was also unable to start the final with engine issues.

 

At the fall of the green it was McKenzie on the outside who made the best of the starts with Gange also moving into second ahead of Howard, Deglaitis and Rieck. McKenzie and Gange where duelling for the lead, when in lap four the pair tangled with McKenzie rolling and Gange also out with front end damage.

 

Howard led away at the restart with Deglaitis and Rieck in pursuit, with Rieck making his move into second position in lap six, the race came to a caution in lap eight when the car of Deglaitis sustained front end damage and came to a halt. Once again Howard led the field away ahead of Rieck, Smith, Verhoeven and Gleeson. Howard charged away from the restart with Rieck hot on his heels while a little further back the battle for third saw Verhoeven hot on the tail of Smith.

 

With the fall of the checker it was Howard who secured the victory ahead of Rieck, Smith, Verhoeven, Gleeson, Humphries, Singleton and Woolstencroft. At the presentations Howard thanked car owner Ron Jones for his continued support, his crew members and Sponsors

The Super Rod’s next meeting will be at Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Raceway next Saturday 29th of April.
