Coad Claims Season Opener

The Super Rods kick started their 2019/2020 season at Heytesbury Stockfeed’s Simpson Speedway on Friday 20th of December where they supported night one of the Australian Formula 500 Title. Michael Coad took home the night’s honours in the Duynhoven racing machine when he led home Paul Verhoeven and Corey Deglaitis.

The first heat of the night saw Gerrard Mabbitt and Paul Baker to make their Super Rod debuts, with Baker’s car suffering from initial gremlins sending him prematurely infield. Coad made the most of the starts leading until the eighth lap when Deglaitis was able to edge into the lead momentarily, before Coad was able to regain the lead. As the cars greeted the checker it was Coad who secured the win ahead of a close finishing Deglaitis and Verhoeven.

Howard Stansfield secured the win in the second heat after holding off a determined Alex Bath with Verhoeven rounding out the top three.

The line up for the final saw Coad and Verhoeven making up the front row, followed by Stansfield, Bath, Deglaitis, Paul Singleton, Mabbitt, Sally Woolstencroft and Baker.

Coad made the best of the starts leading away from Verhoeven, Stansfield, Deglaitis and Bath. With the drivers engaged in a fierce battle and running three wide the cars of Bath and Stansfield made contact sending the later into a heavy rollover and brining the race to a halt before one lap could be completed.

From the restart it was again Coad leading the way with Verhoeven and Deglaitis in hot pursuit, by lap three Coad was able to create a buffer between himself and his pursuers. At the fall of the flag it was Coad who was never headed taking the win ahead of Verhoeven and Deglaitis rounding out the top three, followed by Singleton, Mabbitt, Woolstencroft and Baker rounding out the field.

My appologies in the the delay in completing this report, the past few weeks have been somewhat crazy.
