Coad Claims Avalon

The Super Rods were in action at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway last Saturday night where it was Michael Coad who secured the win ahead of Shaun Walsh and Paul Verhoeven.

In the first heat of the night it was a green to checker win for Verhoeven who led home Coad and Neville Gange. Peter Duynhoven who claimed an all the ways win in the second heat when he led home Walsh and Rod Smith.

With the final grid on the track it was Coad and Duynhoven making up the front row, they were followed by Verhoeven, Walsh, Gange, Smith, Zac Farrer, Corey Deglaitis, Jason Kavanagh, Paul Singleton and Troy Hose.

It was Coad who made the best of the starts leading away from Duynhoven, Verhoeven, Gange and Walsh. With Coad establishing a slight break, the pack set in a dogged pursuit.  Verhoeven moved into second position in lap two ahead of Duynhoven and Walsh, with Walsh claiming third the following lap. In lap nine Walsh was able to move past Verhoeven and set in pursuit of the leader.

Having led the race in its entirety it was Coad who went on to take the win ahead of a fast finishing Walsh who had narrowed the gap to a car length, ahead of Verhoeven, Deglaitis, Gange, Farrer, Duynhoven, Kavanagh, Smith and Singleton.

The Super Rods will now enjoy a slight break in the lead up to Christmas and will be back in action at Laang Speedway on Friday 28th of December for round one of the Super Rod Shootout.
