Coad Goes Back to Back at Simpson
Michael Coad claimed back-to-back wins when the Super Rods took to Heytesbury Stockfeed’s Simpson Speedway last Saturday night. Pitted against the SDAV Hotrods in the Southern Rod Challenge which always creates some great racing, but it was Coad who retained the crown for the Super Rods ahead of SDAV challenger Stan Marco Snr with fellow Super Rod competitor Paul Verhoeven rounding out the podium.
In the first heat of the night, it was SDAV’s Thomas Marco who took an all the ways win ahead of Coad with Jamie May home in third. Ewan McKenzie was the victor in the second heat when he led home Verhoeven with Stan Marco Snr rounding out the three.
Heat three saw Coad make a last lap pass of Allan Pitcher driving the Phil Jenkin’s SDAV Hotrod in to take the win with SDAV’s Stan Marco Jnr third. Neville Gange took a green to checker win in the fourth heat leading home Gerrard Mabbitt and Verhoeven.
The penultimate heat saw Dane Court take a flag to flag win ahead of Coad and Thomas Marco third. Stan Marco Snr claimed the final heat the night when he led home Verhoeven and SDAV’s Dean West.
The grid for the final saw Coad and Verhoeven making up the front row they were followed by Thomas Marco and Stan Marco Snr, then came Mabbitt, Court, Stan Marco Jnr, West, McKenzie, May, Allan Pitcher and George Woolstencroft, with debuting rookies Jacob Pitcher and Billy Grist rounding out the field.
It was Coad who made the best of the starts leading away from Verhoeven and Stan Marco Snr. Coad set a blistering pace while the battle for minors played out between second and third. In lap five Stan Marco Snr was able to make his move forward past Verhoeven.
Stan Marco Snr was able to claw back some of ground Coad had made by lap eight, before Coad was able to break free from his pursuer. At the fall of the checker it was Coad who took his second victory at the venue in two weeks, ahead of Stan Marco Snr with Verhoeven home in third, then came Stan Marco Jnr, Thomas Marco, May, Mabbitt, Jacob Pitcher, George Woolstencroft and Grist.
The Super Rods will be in action at Sungold Stadium Premier Speedway on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd of January where they will support the 50 for 50 Sprintcar event.
